NJ3KASSISTED LOWConditions were poor to say the least. Thanks to all. 73
NN5TSINGLE-OP LOWVery limited antenna - Butternut HF-2V in the back yard with ice building up, a lot of snow noise too.
NO9EASSISTED HIGHPerhaps the worst conditions that I remember. No WA, WY or NV. OR and MT the last morning. Small participation, with very few signals over 1845. Strong but deaf PP5 the first evening and always present KH6AQ. I set up a bent vertical to a 120' tower with just 8 60' radials. A week earlier that vertical was a few db better to EU than my 100' shunt tower so I had high hopes but the EU propagation was short. Due to very dry weather lots of powerline static this time. Upgrade of Flex 6600 from version 3 to 4 was a big mistake as the new version has a galore of bugs. A few crashes, frequent interlock and "reduce power messages" and weird key. Also untunable APF and NB that creates many false signals.

NT9MSINGLE-OP LOWAntenna is an inverted U shaped wire in a tree fed at ground level.
NY5BASSISTED LOWMost enjoyable contest. Snow and temp in teens made it a perfect weekend radio event. Also first 160m contest ever (licensed since 1976). Equipment: Icom IC 756pro and OCF dipole at 30'. Didnt get to operate a lot but enough to bring me back next time.
OE8TEDSINGLE-OP HIGHTS590SG + PA, TX Ant: InV-L 20m, RX-Ant: phased verticals Went to bed too early in the first night and missed the only NA opening... Thanks for the QSOs and patience.
OG6NASSISTED LOWTerrible conditions. I got CQed in my face many times when even trying to call a nearby European station. Using 100 W and an inverted vee dipole with apex around 45 ft and the tips of the dipole maybe at 20 ft height.

OL1RMULTI-OPIn recent years, we have pretty much always participated in our Favorite CQ160 contest, and this year was not different. Its CW part was held last weekend. A week before the CQ 160, we were diligently building antennas throughout all weekend. On Saturday, the weather was not good, foggy with strong wind in gusts. It really was not very pleasant to run outside in the meadow, but we still managed to build everything on Saturday. On Sunday we only stretched the coaxial cables, tuned the vertical and completed all the detailed preparation for the test. The transmitting antenna was a vertical 27m with a capacitive hat and several beverage 320m of length. Double beverage for W/VE direction, single for JA and Indian ocean directions, and bidirectional for PY/VK and Pacific/Africa directions. During the test we have realized something wrong on BID BEV AF/NORTH.....In completely dark with headlamp me and Milan OK1IW have fixed the wrong Back-Back on 75coax...That is pretty much “the weak” point on it.. For the first time, we had the opportunity to try out the YAESU FTDX10 and FTDX101 radios. It was a big step forward in quality. We used to use an ICOM 756PROIII and the transformation to the new digital device was very nice. On the Monday before the race, a strong "solar wind" hit the Earth and a strong aurora borealis occurred. This phenomenon always has a negative impact on the conditions of propagation of HF signals. We feared the worst, the 160m zone would not work. On the Friday before the race, we met together, made the last preparations and in the evening at 22:00 UTC kicked it out. In the first night, there were 566 Qs in the log, of which over 50 DXs were W/VE/Carib/SA. We expected it to be much, much worse. The second night was miserable on DXs. We saw hundreds of spots in the DX-cluster, where American stations spotted each other. Almost none of this was heard by us even on our quiet double US beverage from what we heard, we made half of stations on Band map. On Sunday evening we were able to do only one JN1ILK of big surprise and surprisingly, VK2BJ with super nice signal on my CQ Freq. I could not understand to work a Barry on the PY dir. That always make a BIG surprise and shaking my head.... A big thank you to everyone who participated in the event. We are looking forward to the SSB part. We would also like to thank the Hodkovice nad Mohelkou Aeroclub, which has been accommodating us for many years and providing us with space for these sessions. SETUP: FTDX10 MULTI, FTDX101 RUN plus PA. TX ANT: 27m VERTICAL with capacitive hat plus 100 pcs ¼ radials RX: 320m double US BEV, Middle East SINGLE BEV, PY/VK BIDI, AF/PAC BIDI. Ops: OK1NY, OK1MV, OK1HGM, OK1IW Support TEAM: OK1FJX, OK1DIU, OK2MTW, OK1HGM Jun, OK1FPD See you in SSB part on March. 73. Take Care! MV

P40AAASSISTED HIGHThe first night started with good conditions, and big EU stations showed up early. Then, after approximately 4:30 AM, suddenly no more EU signals came in and the expected EU sunrise peak simply didn’t happen. At least there was a small highligh The next night was horrible. I struggled to get heard even by US stations, and only a handful called in. After 04:30—ironically the exact time when EU conditions died on the first night—a few more EU stations made it through. But again, no re As many others have already said, these were the worst conditions ever. In years like this, with such poor condx, locations like Aruba are not exactly favorable. But new year, new luck!
