| K4KZ | SINGLE-OP HIGH | I thought with my new Inverted L I could have made more West Coast QSOs, but that didn't happen. Also, it's getting harder at my age to stay up late for the West Coast (Ha, ha). |
| K4YJ | ASSISTED LOW | antenna is a 160m ocf dipole center point at 40'. ends at 25' |
| K5QQ | SINGLE-OP LOW | 135' Inverted L @ 27' fed by AH-730 tuner & Icom IC-7610 |
| K5RX | SINGLE-OP HIGH | Poor conditions coupled with an unusually cold, snowy and icy storm during the entire contest period made for many challenges. A few hours in, the resonant frequency of my inverted L started drifting lower from the ever-heavier ice coating. This was disappointing because I had gotten it matched well with a shunt coil at the feedpoint, obviating the need to use a tuner in the shack. By Saturday afternoon, I had to put the tuner back in line. Two new line noises appeared by the start of the contest, making three in all. One was intermittent, but the other two were constant. I do not know if that was because of the increased electrical load due to the extreme, for Texas, cold or ice on the power lines or something else. But with three noise sources, I could only cancel one at a time. At most times, every Beverage had substantial noise. I had never before seen that. As a result of these difficulties, my operating time was the lowest in years. I had high levels of fatigue from straining to copy more than the usual number of weaker signals. N1MM+ says I operated 15 hours, 43 minutes, but I had many breaks under 30 minutes long. No doubt I put in fewer than 15 hours. Two big surprises the first night were (1) working a few stations in the former Yugoslavia and (2) a very strong PP5JR calling me. I never heard any other Europeans from outside that area. I heard no Europeans at all the second night. Also, never heard any JAs, although I might have heard a trace of one calling a West Coaster. I finally heard a lone Washington station the second night. He called and worked VA7MM, who couild never hear me. VE7ZO had called me earlier, so it was WA I needed. Two surprises the second night were two callers: (1) very loud YV5JDP and (2) moderately loud PY5XH. |
| K5VG | SINGLE-OP LOW | End Fed sloper - height range 20 ft to 6 ft |
| K5VIP | ASSISTED HIGH | 100% S&P with Telnet |
| K5XU | SINGLE-OP LOW | Friday night conditions were good, Saturday night and Sunday morning were not. Still had fun. |
| K5ZD | SINGLE-OP HIGH | Bad noise from some local electronic device covered the band at times. K3+PGLX, Inverted vee with top at 68' |
| K6AJ | ASSISTED LOW | My antenna is a 160m dipole configured as an inverted v with the apex at 30 feet |
| K8LF | ASSISTED HIGH | Better conditions than we had for ARRL 160M. I actually worked a few EUR stations. This is probably my best 160M contest score ever. Setup a loop on the ground for receive, however not sure it helped any. |
| K8MP | SINGLE-OP LOW | T antenna (180 ft doublet fed with 450 ohm line with the feeders tied together) |
| K8OS | SINGLE-OP LOW | Inverted-L, 15-radials, and 40 feet at highest point. |
| K9DU | SINGLE-OP HIGH | 176' dipole at ~45 feet above ground |
| K9LA | SINGLE-OP LOW | Right now I only have a temporary 160m dipole at 8 feet high snaking around the yard. When warmer weather comes, I'll get the normal 160m antenna back up (inverted-L). |
| K9MA | SINGLE-OP HIGH | Worst 160 conditions in memory! |
| K9SG | ASSISTED HIGH | Did the contest remotely using our standard K30 to K3 link via Remoterig with inverted L at 60 feet and no RX antennas. Band conditions were not very good but still worked a fe. |
| K9UR | ASSISTED HIGH | Good fun. A little more dx than ARLDX160 but band condx still poor at the top of the solar cycle. Thanks for the Q's |
| K9ZU | SINGLE-OP LOW | Not bad for one hour! |
| KA1J | SINGLE-OP HIGH | Damned AMTRAK 100 feet from my antennas. The eternal RFI from their old electric lines is deafening. Always fun though |
| KA2KQP | SINGLE-OP LOW | Antenna - 40 Meter 1/4 wave vertical. Can't buy 100 watt incandescent light bulbs anymore which would have been more efficient :) |
| KA3EHL | SINGLE-OP LOW | OCF 160-10 10 TO 15FT OFF GROUND |
| KA5CRL | SINGLE-OP LOW | Inverted V fed with twin-lead. |
| KA5PMV | SINGLE-OP LOW | 160M full wave loop, max height 35ft. I was actually operating WFD, but since the 160M CW contest was same weekend, I'm submitting those contacts here. Really wish they weren't on the same weekend because I would have had more contacts on 160M that would have counted on WFD. I would |
| KB0UAZ | SINGLE-OP LOW | 130ft horizontal wire about 6ft off the ground bent to fit my back yard fed against ground. |
| KB0YD | SINGLE-OP QRP | EFHW antenna randomly placed 30ft up on roof of house. |
| KB8TYJ | SINGLE-OP LOW | Band conditions were disappointing, although they were somewhat better Saturday night. |
| KC4LZN | ASSISTED HIGH | Something told me to expedite getting my mast up. My fiberglass mask was taken down by a microburst last summer and I just got it back up in the air a couple of days before this contest began. I didn't get in until Saturday night. And boy, were the bands quiet as far as noise.. The signal to noise ratio was superb about an S3. Even without the filters on. A lot of activity, so I jumped in S and P. And seemed to do pretty good for the most part, Not bad for an inverted sloper 160 that I bought a few years ago. Looking forward to the next one next year... |
| KD2KW | SINGLE-OP LOW | 1/4 wire at 20 feet |
| KD3HN | SINGLE-OP LOW | TX ant #1, 160m full wave horizontal loop at about 40ft, fed with 450-ohm twinlead. TX ant #2, 160m EFHW with support at about 50ft, coax to MFJ tuner RX ant, Hi-Z 3 with 0dB base amps |
| KD8TNF | SINGLE-OP HIGH | 73 |
| KE0L | ASSISTED HIGH | Bands awfully noisy on Friday night and Saturday night appeared better. I was worried this would be a 1-night contest only due to the expected ice storm in TN. Fortunately, the wx stayed warm enough so ice was minimal. No contacts made to the NW |
| KE0TT | SINGLE-OP QRP | 5 watts to either a 45' T-top vertical or a 90' dipole up 60'. Lots of QRN and poor condx from MN, so was a slog this time. Many calls and repeats. But more fun than watching TV. Thanks for your copy of my QRP, and C U next time. 73, Dan ke0tt |
| KE3K | ASSISTED LOW | The band conditions for this year's CQWW 160 CW were marginal at best. And, I just didn’t put much of an effort into it this year. I was only on for five hours Saturday night. No runs, just S&P. I didn’t even break 200 Qs. Hearing, let alone |
| KE4EA | ASSISTED HIGH | My first CQ 160 |
| KE4S | SINGLE-OP LOW | Stayed up waaaay past my bedtime for a limited effort. Had fun and enjoyed the time in this one. Rig is K4D to Inverted L (Marconi - W7KF Skyhook 2) at 45 ft AGL, a few sparse radials buried. This antenna (sort-of) works on both 160 and 80 with a |
| KG0GY | ASSISTED LOW | Random Wired Antenna configured as an inverted L. Vertical component was 25 feet. |
| KG3V | SINGLE-OP LOW | Antenna - ZS6BKW modified for 160 meters |
| KH6AQ | MULTI-OP | Heather AH7RF, Rob NH6V and Dave KH6AQ had a fine old time at the seashore working topband using our ocean-assisted full size quarter wavelength ground plane. |
| KJ4LEN | SINGLE-OP LOW | Used 100W and an Inverted L with 2 radials elevated 5 feet. Found out that I can be heard better than I can hear due to noise level at my location. I will have to work on a separate receive antenna for next year. |
| KK0U | ASSISTED LOW | T-loaded Marconi 40' tall. |
| KK4R | ASSISTED HIGH | My antenna is a longish inverted-L. I would trim it, but the tree got a grip on it, and it won't come down. |
| KK9V | ASSISTED HIGH | Part time Not very good conditions. |
| KM4FO | SINGLE-OP LOW | Double Sloper, one end down. |
| KN2D | SINGLE-OP LOW | I've got work to do to improve my 160m EFLW! |
| KR5DX | SINGLE-OP LOW | END-FED Wire antenna, Poles at the end 20ft tall. Feeding point was 4ft from ground. |
| KS7T | SINGLE-OP LOW | Normally this contest has a lot more activity than what I heard for this one. The solar storms plus the extreme wx cndx around the country made it slow going in this one. Hardly any signals coming through on Fri. night but picked up coast to coast Sat. My ant. is an RG8-U coaxial base loaded 10 gauge random length wire no where near resonant length tuned through an MFJ versa tuner V stretching up to my mast 10 feet below my tribander at the 40' level at the apex. Ground is a system of wires buried on my property. They are not radials. |
| KT3T | ASSISTED LOW | 160m Inverted L with flat top at 45 ft. above the ground. |
| KW1DX | ASSISTED HIGH | First 160m contest. Installed new transmit antenna over summer, Inverted L with folded counterpoise. Next summer need to add a better receive antenna. |
| KX9RT | ASSISTED LOW | I was looking forward to a great 160M CW contest, but the conditions were rough and I eventually gave in... so I lost the personal battle with this exercise in futility, especially on Friday night. I decided to use my time on shack projects inste The local noise floor was about S7 both nights and on a good night it is about S3 in my current setup. Saturday was much better, and the RBN was showing my call with workable signals across the map. I was able to work Hawaii about midnight. Being K3S into a 130ft inverted L up 50ft |
| LA0GE | ASSISTED LOW | Flex-8400 Antennas: Vertical |
